What are the different ways motorcycle riders use to talk to each other?
You can use various techniques to message your friend on another motorbike. I have explained four methods of communication while riding.
Use traditional method
The traditional hand signal technique is one of the most effective methods. You can send different signals to fellow riders by using your hands.
However, it is an efficient technique when the other rider is near you. The signals are short and deliver a comprehensive message to the fellow person.
You can stretch your left arm down to indicate the stop conditions. You can use the index finger of this hand to point to the ground.
By pointing two fingers toward the road surface, you can indicate the fellow rider to keep the wheels on the ground.
You can lift two fingers and split them to get lane space. It indicates peace and comfort due to more riding space.
It is a unique technique to send information without speaking a single word. You can send the message when the range between the two motorcycles is about 3 to 5 feet.
You can ride on the road’s right edge to send hand signals to a person on the left side. For the lean riders, you can lift two fingers near the helmet and show the sign of peace and enough space.
For a turn, you can extend your arm and bend it at around 90°.
Use a high-tech wireless system
The motorcyclists can talk to one another from about 25 to 40 meters. You can install a Bluetooth-regulated headset in your motorcycle helmet for this purpose.
It is an advanced system of communication among riders. The Bluetooth-containing headsets connect within seconds.
Due to pairing, you can communicate with different people in a group. In addition, these headsets for the helmets are lightweight with non-complicated installation.
These are affordable and contain wireless technology which connects several riders with non-interrupted signals. In addition, you can install the headset with Bluetooth feature inside your helmet.
You can open the headset and disassemble the parts by unscrewing them for installation. For example, you can remove the ear cushions, keep them aside and pull the wires.
For the connection, you can make a hole inside the helmet, cross the wire and make space for ear cushions. Then, through soldering, you can connect the headset wire and connect it firmly.
You can put the cushions back in their original mounting position. Then, you can add adhesive glue and attach the headset to the helmet.
For the pairing procedure, you can push the button on the headset for around 5 to 10 seconds. After that, you can hear a specific sound that indicates the pairing.
You can access blue and red lights, which blink on the helmet. Due to button pressing, the headset finds the nearby helmets with Bluetooth.
You can find blue flashing lights on the helmets, which indicate pairing.
DMC advanced method
As a motorcyclist, you can use the DMC system, which stands for dynamic mesh communication. It is an improved version of Bluetooth helmet technology because it can connect more than two riders.
Due to frequency range, it can connect a group of motorcyclists who are at a particular distance from each other. According to the mesh technology, the signals remain safe and have no interference from wind or radio frequencies.
From one mile, the DMC system can combine 10 to 20 riders. It is an advanced feature that works on intercom technology and provides better control.
The manufacturers launched it in 2015 to improve communication among motorbike riders. Due to the advancement, it can cover an area of about 5 miles.
You can install an intercom in the helmet by examining the mounts. The helmets are available in various shapes due to their demand and designs.
The ear resting area inside the helmet is the mount for the speaker. A few options have built-in areas for intercom adjustment.
You can remove the pads and apply glue or other adhesive material to adjust the speakers. You can push the speaker inside the padding and fix it with adhesive material.
A few speakers require cutting and trimming of the helmet. You can add the Velcro install, which replaces the glue and adjust the speakers firmly.
On the headgear, you can adjust the Velcro and put the speakers. The intercom contains Bluetooth wireless technology.
You can adjust it through an adhesive or clamp. On both sides of the cheek space, you can push the intercom and fix it in the middle section of the padding and helmet shell.
You can use rubber-based spacers to fix it in the mount. You can adjust the microphone near the mouth or the chin for better audio control. With the screws, you can modify the location of the microphone.
For DMC pairing, the other helmet should comprise a similar system. For the dynamic mesh communication phase, you can access the green light on the helmet.
Then, you can push the dual button on the intercom. You can press them for less than ten seconds and hear the beep.
Due to intermittent performance, you can find green flashing light on your intercom when you push the button. In such circumstances, your intercom becomes the admin and regulator of other DMC systems.
It has a range of 1.5 kilometers (0.93 miles) which can increase to 6 to 8 kilometers (3.7 to 4.9 miles). Within this range, the DMC can connect more than six motorcyclists in a few seconds.
Wired radio connection
For the communication of riders, the 2-way wired radio system is an effective technique. Moreover, it is more reliable than other wireless methods.
Due to wired connectivity, signal loss is rare. They are manually controlled small radios with specific frequencies.
Due to their specific properties, one rider can speak at once. These radios with 2-way properties and wired features are available in the market.
With a wire, you can connect these radios to the helmet. You cannot leave the wire connected when you switch off the motorbike.
Due to wiring, the radio does not require an external charge. As a result, it provides comfort, convenience, and reliability.
Due to a stable connection, the signals never drop.
Why would motorcycle riders talk to each other?
The majority of motorcycle riders ride to distant locations for their long trips. In these circumstances, they require coordination among them.
